We match works to institutions algorithmically by using author affiliation text in the work's record against institutional records in ROR. The most common errors we find are when:
- affiliation metadata is inaccurate or incomplete in the work's record;
- ROR records are incomplete or lacking for the institution; and
- the affiliation text and ROR records are both accurate and complete but our algorithm did not match the text to the correct ROR
If you notice that affiliation metadata is inaccurate or missing, let the publisher know. They may need to update records they registered with a DOI agency (e.g., Crossref).
Check for your institution's ROR record by searching at https://ror.org/search . If the record is inaccurate or incomplete (particularly if institution aliases or key sub-affiliation are missing, use the "suggest a change" link at the bottom of the page to let ROR know.
If the affiliation text and ROR record are right and we failed to match some works to your institution, use the works-magnet to find the errors and send corrections directly to OpenAlex. Here is the link to a tutorial that might help you do that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIFHhz2OQPg
If you think there is another issue, let us know by emailing us at support@openalex.org, including specific examples when possible.
