Currently, we know about three different mainstream University Rankings that are using our data:
- CWTS released their second version of the Open Leiden Rankings on the same day as the new THE Rankings this year, which generated some interesting conversations about rankings on closed vs. open data. And they made public a dashboard comparing rankings based on Web of Science vs. OpenAlex. More on that here.
- Financial Times has just started using OpenAlex for their business school rankings. This is an initial move in what we're hoping will be a productive collaboration with them. Some relevant links: Overall magazine; Main ranking leveraging openalex; and data plus profile of openalex
- Times Higher Education will be launching their new Interdisciplinary Science Rankings later this month. They just posted an article saying that it is their biggest debut for a new rankings and the bibliometric indicators of interdisciplinarity are based on OpenAlex data (link to methodology).
All of these are exciting for us because (1) they bring exposure globally to OpenAlex (2) they help showcase some of the benefits of OpenAlex (e.g., open and comprehensive of fields and regions that are typically excluded) and (3) Universities are interested in exploring the underlying data and providing curation requests that further enhance OpenAlex.
